How You Can Help:
DAY OF CARING
You can volunteer for this entire event by joining our planning committee and help recruit teams, sell sponsorship or assess projects. You can volunteer for just one day by joining a work team, leading a work team from your work/church or helping with event day logistics such as set-up, registration, breakfast service, lunch service, or tear-down. The planning process usually begins in late June or early July and is completed by the end of September. Approximately 15 hours of volunteer time is required to assist on the planning committee. On event day, usually held on or around September 11th, volunteers can work as little as two hours or as many as 12 hours, depending on the volunteer task that you chose.
COMMUNITY INVESTMENT
Are you concerned about the needs of our community? Do you like to spend money? Can you ask tough questions? If you answered yes, then the Community Investment Committee may be the volunteer opporutnity for you. Community Investment is the procees by which DCUW volunteers determine what agency programs are funded and at what level. The process usually egins in late January or early February and is completed by the end of March. A total of approximately 15 hours of volunteer time is required. To volunteer for the Community Investment Committee, send an email to mbforst@davieunitedway.org.
CAMPAIGN
DCUW’s Annual Campaign is an integral part of the United Way system. In order to fund direct and traditional programs, a successful fundraising campaign must be run. DCUW is always looking for volunteers to help in recruiting new and veteran companies to run employee giving campaigns. Volunteers can choose to recruit in any of the following divisions: Commercial Retail, Commercial Service, Education, Finance, Government, Industry, Individual Gifts, Health Care or Professional. Volunteer hours requested range from 15 – 30 or more.
DINE OUT FOR DAVIE
If food is something you enjoy, then working on the Dine Out for Davie committee might be the avenue for you! Dine Out for Davie is an avenue for restaurants to contribute a percentage of their sales on a given day (usually the second Thursday in November) to the United Way campaign. Committee members meet September through the middle of November. Each committee member chooses a number of restaurants within Davie County and approaches each restaurant with the idea of participating. Once a restaurant says yes, the committee person becomes their liaison to DCUW and delivers any materials needed. After the event, each committee members calls their assigned restaurants to find out what the day’s sales were and reports that to the DCUW office so that an invoice for their contribution can be generated. Finally, thank you notes are sent out to the restaurants that volunteers can sign themselves if they wish. Volunteers will devote approximately 10 – 15 hours of time by participating on this committee.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The Davie County United Way Board of Directors meets quarterly for one to one and a half hours. Each board member is asked to participate on one or more committees within the Board. Committees that have not been previously explained include: By-laws, Finance, Human Resources, Marketing or Nominating. Board members dedicate 10 + hours to their work on the Board of Directors.
