COMMUNITY INVESTMENT (GRANTMAKING)

In 2010, DCUW invested $278,572 in total program services for Davie County, once again making it the largest grant making organization within Davie County, strictly addressing the needs of our community.  Each year, dozens of community volunteers help to make funding decisions for United Way.  Nonprofit organizations may request funding from DCUW for programs that fall into one of our three identified priorities, called Community Impact Areas:

CHILDREN & YOUTH
  • Invest in the future success of children by providing safe environments and educational activities.
  • Enhance character development and self-esteem.
  • Help children achieve their full potential.

HEALTH & WELLNESS

  • Improve people's health.
  • Promote the wellness of the community through physical activities.
  • Promote the well being of seniors in our community.
  • Provide physical, emotional and psychological caring to the sick, disabled and terminally ill.

CRISIS INTERVENTION

  • Provide people with the basic necessities in a disaster or other times of temporary need.
  • Promote financial stability and independence.
  • Encourage and facilitate a return to self-sufficiency.

COMMUNITY INITIATIVES FUNDING:

DCUW partner agencies as well as any human service agency, having been determined by the IRS to be a tax-exempt organization under section 501 (c) 3 of the tax code, are eligible to apply for Community Initiative Funding (CIF).  CIF funding is specifically reserved as short-term  funding for start-up costs associated with bringing a new program to Davie County or to agencies who provide a program that addresses one of four Community Initiatives: Affordable/Accessible Child Care, Suicide Prevention/Intervention, Teen Pregnancy in Minorities, and Transportation.
