October Proclaimed United Way Month in Davie County!
The Town of Mocksville as well as the County of Davie have proclaimed the month of October as United Way of Davie County Month! This is a very special designation during this time of year because it is also United Way’s Annual Campaign season. “Fall is in the air, United Way flags are flying down Main Street, October has been proclaimed as the month to honor United Way, and we are on our way to a very successful 2017 Campaign,” said Josh Hanes, United Way’s Board President.
United Way has experienced a great start to the Campaign. The Campaign’s Pacesetter, The Davie County School System, plus the United Way’s own campaign, and many individual donors who have already made their gifts, have resulted in raising $53,832.77! “This is a tremendous start on the way to the most successful campaign we have had in several years”, said Marcia Perrell, who serves on the Board of United Way and as the 2017 Campaign Chair. “We are on our way to reaching our well thought out need to raise $537,260 to support the programs and services in our county!”
The 2017 Campaign Cabinet set the goal of this campaign at $537,260 because that is what is needed to fulfill the mission of United Way of Davie County which is to fight for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in our community. “This is only a 13.7% increase over what was raised last year”, states Melinda Beauchamp, CEO of United Way, “but that amount raised will open many doors currently shut to many Davie County residents who need help.” In order to open those doors, agencies need more support to be able to provide the services our folks need, we need more robust programs that help build and strengthen our workforce, that prepare our children for a successful school career, that provides a safe, calm home environment for the homeless, abused, and neglected of our community….the needs are more than can be depicted here.
Now is the time to show your support for United Way of Davie County. If your place of business does not host a United Way employee campaign, ask that your company Join the Fight! Over 35 companies in Davie County do not have employee campaigns. This means many people are not being educated regarding what our community has to offer nor are they being given the chance to support this valuable organization that fights for the health, education and financial stability of every person in our community. If you want to be a part of the organization that looks for the gaps in services, finds new solutions to old problems, mobilizes the best resources to address our community’s most daunting social crises, that understands we are always stronger together, United Way is where you want to invest your charitable dollars.
