Day of Caring

United Way of Davie County held their 2017 Day of Caring event Saturday, April 29 in the gym at the Farmington Community Center (FCC). We want to thank FCC for donating the space to United Way for their second meal packaging event. United Way is also very grateful to CPP Global, Inc. for co-sponsoring this wonderful day of service to our community.

The gym was a perfect location to house over 130 volunteers from CPP Global, Bank of the Ozarks, Rotary Club of Mocksville, Walmart, Corinthian Lodge #17, SunTrust, Davie Family YMCA, The Andersons, Inc., Redland Pentecostal Church, Cornatzer Elementary School, FCC Board of Directors, Davie High School students, United Way Board members, and other community volunteers.

Volunteers packed 40,000 meals of fortified apple cinnamon oatmeal given to local organizations that feed hungry families in our community. Those receiving meals were A Storehouse for Jesus, Our Daily Bread Food Pantry at Church of the Ascension, Just Hope, Inc., and Backpack Buddies, a program that provides meals for students on weekends, holidays, and summer break.

The gym was full of high energy, hard-working, talking, laughing, volunteers many of whom told United Way how much they enjoyed helping and they want to do it again next year!

United Way worked with Outreach, Inc. to bring this event to Davie County. “Although the planning and organizing of this type of event is a massive undertaking, it was incredible to see all of these volunteers having such a good time spending their Saturday morning working for the good of others in our community,” says Melinda Beauchamp, CEO of United Way. “Yes, it was a great day! Many thanks to all of you for making our Day of Caring a huge success!”
